Member Organizations

We are a non-partisan Coalition of organizations concerned about the role of money in our politics and our government. The Coalition is working and supporting all means of effective campaign finance reform and fair elections. Our member organizations have different perspectives for achieving that aim. Some prefer legislative remedies while others promote broad public lobbying efforts to cajole politicians into voluntary remedies. Others are focusing more locally, while some are more national in scope. As long as the efforts are promoting genuine reform of money in our political and governmental systems, we are mutually supportive of those efforts. Below are current supporting member organizations.

Democracy in Action Chicago (DIAC)

In recent years, we have seen significant changes in the world. The collapse of our economy, the long steady attack on middle class, the increased devastation of our environment, and the unparalleled income and wealth distribution have created a critical moment. More and more Americans are questioning how our government and our economy work and whom they serve. Democracy In Action Chicago (DIAC) is responding to this crisis. We are committed to fighting for a”People First” economy and a democracy that serves the people not corporate interests. Actions we take and issues we address are part of a long-term agenda to create the policies needed to serve and empower the people.

OUR GOAL is to rally our fellow Progressives to grow a movement of Informed, Inspired and Mobilized citizens who will not be silenced. We are a group of Chicago Area Progressives based on Chicago’s north side and northern suburbs working to:

  • Advance a Political Progressive Agenda
  • Become a resource for Progressives in the Chicagoland area
  • Plan and organize in partnership with like-minded organizations

We seek to inspire, train and mobilize our community to stay involved and take action on our five issues:

People for the American Way

People For the American Way is dedicated to making the promise of America real for every American: Equality. Freedom of speech. Freedom of religion. The right to seek justice in a court of law. The right to cast a vote that counts. The American Way.
Our vision is a vibrantly diverse democratic society in which everyone is treated equally under the law, given the freedom and opportunity to pursue their dreams, and encouraged to participate in our nation’s civic and political life. Our America respects diversity, nurtures creativity and combats hatred and bigotry.
We believe a society that reflects these constitutional principles and progressive values is worth fighting for, and we take seriously our responsibility to cultivate new generations of leaders and activists who will sustain these values for the life of this nation.
Our operational mission is to promote the American Way and defend it from attack, to build and nurture communities of support for our values, and to equip those communities to promote progressive policies, elect progressive candidates, and hold public officials accountable.

Progressive Democrats of America

Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and our country, but is not affiliated with the official Democratic Party. We seek to build a party and government controlled by citizens, not corporate elites-with policies that serve the broad public interest, not just private interests. As a grassroots PAC, we operate “inside” the Democratic Party through our work on Capitol Hill and through some state (including Illinois) and local governments, and we operate “outside” in movements for peace and justice with dozens of coalition partners. We work towards our goals through the election of progressive candidates at all levels, a focus on issues and partnering legislation, along with grassroots actions. Our inside/outside strategy is guided by the belief that a lasting majority will require a revitalized Democratic Party built on firm progressive principles.
