Goals & Plans

Goals and Plans: Our long-range goals are to overturn Citizens United and federal judicial decisions such as Buckley v. Valeo and McCutcheon  v. Federal Election Commission through a constitutional amendment and to clarify that money is not First Amendment-protected speech and therefore campaign spending can be regulated.

  • In working towards these goals we support federal amendments and state and local resolutions which move toward regulation and setting limits on campaign contributions.
  • To gain bi-partisan support for a constitutional amendment from the Illinois Congressional delegation
  • To gain bi-partisan support for an amendment from state legislators and local officials
  • To establish relationships with Republicans, Independents and Democrats to build majority support for getting big money out of politics
  • To conduct rallies and public events to pressure federal and local politicians to support legislation which will reverse the effects of unlimited, unregulated big money
  • To educate the public through events, speakers and trainings
  • To reach out to other organizations and individuals to join with us in order to build a powerful coalition
  • To work on election reform and campaign finance reform as ways to restore democracy to the people
  • To fight special interest groups such as ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council) and others in their continued efforts to buy and influence politicians to create the laws they want.
  • To work on critical issues, such as the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), which threaten our overall democracy.
