The United States has become a shell democracy. The Coalition to Restore Democracy believes that we live now in an era of historically unprecedented public corruption from an increasingly undisclosed Niagara of big money in political campaigns, putting public office and public policy up for highest bid. A plutocracy of concentrated personal, financial and corporate wealth has captured our elections and the government, banishing ordinary voters to the far periphery of the public square. The extreme undue influence of big money has reduced our nation’s political life to a mockery of self-government by indenturing public office seekers to corporations and rich donors, drowning the voices of ordinary voters, and further deepening public cynicism about the integrity of the democratic process in the United States.
The Coalition to Restore Democracy is a non-partisan Coalition of 25 organizations within Illinois concerned about the role of money in our politics and our government.
